Singaporeans celebrate their wedding and joining in the sacred bond of marriage in many of the same ways other countries that hold high Christian values do. Even though the population of Singapore favors the Buddhist religion, these types of wedding ceremonies are rarely seen regardless of the fact that they are considered your traditional wedding. After the wedding, the bride and groom celebrate their new life together by holding an extravagant reception where they can relax and kick back with their friends and families. The bride and groom exchange rings as a symbol of their love and dedication for one another.

A Christian Singapore wedding is typically held in a church where a priest will recite Bible readings and will marry the couple. While a majority of the population practices Buddhism and Buddhist weddings are the most traditional, Christian weddings are more popular and more often seen. They can wear a plain, simple dress of any color or they can wear more elaborate dresses with more detail and more texture. In a Buddhist wedding, the bride can wear any dress they choose.

Once the wedding is summoned the priest blesses the newlywed couple. In a Buddhist wedding, the priest or priests will summon the wedding. Since a majority of the population is Buddhist, Buddhist weddings are the most traditional type of weddings presented in Singapore. Less than 20 percent practices Christianity and less than 15 percent practice Muslim. More than half of Singaporeans practice Buddhism and Taoism.

Singapore is one of the few countries that practice many different religious beliefs.
